The Newport String Project believes in the power of music to build community. It was founded in 2012 with a unique vision: to establish a professional string quartet in Newport to teach students violin, viola, or cello at no cost to them or their families, and to present the string quartet in concerts throughout the region. In the 12 years since, its resident ensemble, The Newport String Quartet, has played to hundreds of audience members throughout Newport County, and has succeeded in providing students in our community, ages 5-17, access to quality music instruction each week, where they discover the joy of music and the arts through this outstanding mentoring program.
